Most wood CNC work never needs more than three axes. Signs, cabinet panels, furniture components, 3D relief carving: all of it is accessible from directly above with a vertical spindle. The 5-axis wood router enters the picture when the design requires the spindle to approach the material from an angle - compound bevels on architectural millwork, deep undercuts in sculptural furniture, organic forms where the tool needs to stay perpendicular to a curved surface at every point.

A 5-axis CNC wood router adds A and B rotational axes to standard X, Y, Z motion, allowing the spindle to tilt and rotate to reach surfaces a vertical-only machine cannot approach without repositioning the workpiece.
