5x10 CNC Router Table: The Work Surface System for Large-Format Production

The table on a 5x10 CNC router is as important as the gantry. A 60x120-inch vacuum table that doesn’t hold material flat across its full area doesn’t produce accurate parts from its outer zones. A vacuum plenum that can’t distribute pressure uniformly across 50 square feet of table produces hold-down failure in low-flow areas. Understanding what the table system requires at this scale separates a productive 5x10 installation from an expensive one that produces reliable results only in the center of its table.

The table system of a 5x10 CNC router includes the vacuum plenum, zone valving, porous MDF spoilboard, and vacuum pump system that hold material flat during routing across the 5-foot by 10-foot work surface.

The direct answer: a 5x10 router table requires a zone-valved vacuum plenum with at least 8 to 12 independently controlled zones, a 5 to 7.5HP vacuum pump, and a porous MDF spoilboard faced flat on the machine after installation. The spoilboard must be re-faced periodically (quarterly under production load) to maintain Z accuracy across the full table surface.


Zone Valving at 5x10 Scale

A 5x10 table typically divides into 8 to 12 zones. When processing one standard 4x8 sheet on the 5x10 table, all zones outside the sheet area must be valved closed to maintain vacuum under the sheet. With 12 zones, you can process partial sheets, cut multiple sheet sizes, and maintain hold-down on irregular workpieces that don’t cover full zones.


Vacuum Pump Sizing

Minimum for 5x10: 5HP generating 18 to 20 inches Hg. Production standard: 7.5HP for reliable hold-down on rough-bottomed workpieces and hardwood at full feed rates.

Underpowered vacuum is the most common 5x10 table failure mode. Parts lifting during routing on a 5x10 table ruin expensive large-format material.


Spoilboard Management

A 60x120-inch MDF spoilboard requires a full machine-level facing operation to maintain flatness. This takes 30 to 60 minutes on a production machine. Schedule it quarterly or when Z accuracy deviates across the table.


Verdict

The 5x10 table system requires industrial-grade vacuum infrastructure. 5HP minimum pump, 12-zone valving, and a rigorous spoilboard maintenance schedule are the baseline for reliable production hold-down.
